Course Description
Fundamentals of Psychology presents an introductory overview of psychology. Students will explore the foundations of the field along with current applications to development, personality, and disorders. The purpose of this course is to guide students' critical thinking regarding psychological issues and concepts. Students will apply what they learn to their daily lives and the world around them.
Course Objectives
· Demonstrate the basic processes of critical thinking, including objectively form and analyze positions on behavioral phenomenon
· Evaluate evidence in support or opposition of positions and conceptualize positions within formal theory
· Distinguish basic psychological research design and methods used to investigate various psychological phenomenon
· Explain how the two disciplines of evolutionary psychology and behavioral genetics account for individual differences in personality, mental ability and other characteristics.
· Identify how norms of immediate and global environments contribute to any approach proposed to describe, explain, predict and control human behavior and development
· Describe basic processes that are essential for one to establish self-awareness, self-esteem, independent thinking and self-actualization
· Summarize the major contributions of psychological history and current systems to the understanding of human behavior
