This course is a continuation of Financial Accounting, shifting the focus from external reporting to internal needs of managers. Managerial accounting information helps managers accomplish three essential functions: planning, controlling and decisionmaking. The course provides students with an understanding of managerial accounting information to enable them to evaluate the usefulness of managerial accounting techniques in the real world. Topics include: managerial accounting terminology, budgeting, costing, break-even analysis and cost-volumeprofitability analysis. The methods of identifying and extracting relevant information from managerial accounting systems as an input to decision making and performance evaluation are stressed throughout the course.
Course Objectives
Compare and contrast between managerial accounting and financial accounting.
Assess how managerial accounting and ethics affects various management functions.
Distinguish between product costs and period costs.
Describe job-order and process costing accounting systems within a manufacturing environment.
Integrate activity-based costing, cost -volume-profit analysis, variable costing, and budgeting to analysis efficiency and effectiveness.
Examine variances, decentralized operations, differential analysis along with product pricing, lean manufacturing and capital investment analysis.
Perform the proper calculations of various components of financial statements for utilization in the manufacturing environment.

This is a proctored course. Distance Education Accrediting Commission (DEAC) requires validation that the student who takes an assessment is the same person who enrolled in the program and that the examination results will reflect the students own knowledge and competence in accordance with stated learning outcomes.
