School of Nursing – Connecting with Social Media

Alumni Portal, SON Global Village, and Social Media Sites

As nursing professionals, we are guided in our practice by standards established by organizations such as the National League for Nursing and the American Nurses Association. There are consistent elements among the standards, such as professional development and life-long learning. You have chosen to further your education at Grantham University to satisfy a need in one of those areas and, thus, to advance your career. Grantham, as a stepping stone in your career advancement, also operates under standards set forth by our accrediting bodies. These standards require that the University maintain contact to obtain information from graduates. As part of your professional responsibilities, you will be asked to participate in surveys that will help us meet our standards. We ask that you make every possible effort to fulfill your responsibility as an alumnus of our nursing program.

We urge you to stay connected with Grantham University as your alma mater in the following ways:

Alumni Portal

The GU Alumni Portal was created specifically to allow graduates to maintain contact with the University. The Portal allows Grantham to reach out to you in various ways, such as providing information regarding changes in course and program offerings, as well as changes in the University itself. Through the Portal, Grantham can connect with you as your career progresses and gather required documentation to meet our accreditation standards. As you progress through the nursing program, you will find assignments linked to this process, and you will auto-enroll in the Alumni Portal in your final nursing course prior to graduation.

The SON Global Village

The School of Nursing (SON) Global Village is the Blackboard community that serves as a means of information sharing from the administration and faculty in the SON to the student. You will be asked throughout yoru program to check this site for changes, updates, and general information. Information about surveys and other requested data will be referenced through this community. The 360 Degree lecture in your first course will reference the need for professional responsibility, and the importance of staying connected and completing any surveys you receive.

LinkedIn

Grantham University has a LinkedIn page, which you may also access from your GLife homepage or become a follower of as a student. This social media site serves as a venue for you to share your professional credentials with others. You can search for career opportunities and network with other professionals and potential employers. If you have not already become a follower on LinkedIn, you will be asked to do so as an assignment in a course. We ask that you maintain your profile and update contact information in your account as needed. This medium provides Grantham with an additional point of contact for you, and will help us obtain the required information regarding job placement that our accrediting bodies require.

Other Social Media Sites

In addition to LinkedIn, you can find Grantham on several other social media sites – giving you a variety of ways to stay connected to the University both during school and long after you graduate.
